ABC Hires 1st Black Woman President

ABC made history on Wednesday by hiring its first African-American woman as the president of the network’s programming department.

Channing Dungey was promoted from vice president of drama development after the previous chief, Paul Lee, stepped down after six years of service.

The business woman, who helped develop hit shows including Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder, is excited about her new role, which was announced by Disney Media Networks co-chairman Ben Sherwood.

In a statement, she said, “I’m thrilled and humbled that Ben has entrusted me with this tremendous opportunity.”

She continued, “And I am truly grateful to Paul for being a valued mentor and friend. I’ve had the great honor of working alongside the talented team at ABC for many years and look forward to starting this exciting new chapter with them.”

Can we say #BlackGirlMagic?! Congratulations to Dungey!
