18 Years Ago Today: Wu Tang Forever

Today is the anniversary of Wu Tang Forever.

The Wu Tang Clan’s second studio album dropped on June 3, 1997, on Loud/RCA Records in the U.S. Pressed as a double album, Wu Tang Forever was released after a long run of successful solo projects from various members of the group, according to Today in Hip Hop History.

Wu Tang Forever featured several guests appearances from artists such as Cappadonna, Streetlife, 4th Disciple and True Master.

The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s 200, with 612,000 copies sold in its first week despite limited airplay.

Wu Tang Forever was certified 4x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on Oct. 15 of that year. Each disc counted as separate units for certification purposes.
