Global Spin Awards, DJ Zeke Thomas & Gossip Table!

Global Spin Awards: The Winners!
The DivaGals loved attending the second annual Global Spin Awards–the Oscars for DJs. Emceed by music man in the know, MTV newser Sway Calloway, the night at the New York Times Center in Manhattan brought out the likes of Swizz Beatz, Big Daddy Kane and DJ Spinderella from Salt-n-Pepa. GSA named DJ Envy, who’s produced for the likes of Funkmaster Flex, Foxy Brown, Juvenile and Fabolous, Artist of the Year, while DJ Marley Marl was the night’s legendary DJ Award honoree. We had our own DJ Stiletto, also known as Mari Malek, the new face of Jabot Cosmetics, hit the carpet. “This is such a great way to recognize my incredibly talented fellow artists who take music to another level,” she gushed. “I’m honored to be here.” Scratch that! Zeke Thomas: DJ Extraordinaire! DivaGals EXCLUSIVE!
Speaking of DJs… we’ve been bouncing to the beats masterfully mixed by DJ Zeke Thomas. At just 24, Zeke is repping as the youngest NBA All-Star DJ ever. Makes sense, as his dad is basketball legend Isiah “Zeke” Thomas. “I got my first set of turntables on 9/11. My dad took me down to Circuit City to kind of offset what was going on that day,” Zeke shares with the DivaGals.

His music style marries current beats with classic sounds. “In my set, I always throw in some good hip hop, some Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie and Kool & the Gang,” he shares. “I like to take it back to that nostalgic feel.” Zeke mixes it up across the nation: you can find him at STK, Beauty & Essex and Ainsworth in New York City; LAVO in Las Vegas; Fountain Bleu and Kitchen 305 in Miami; and in Chicago, “club Scarlet, a gay bar in Boystown. It’s over the top and all about the music — whether gay or straight, everyone is welcome.”

Zeke, who’s played for Jay Z, Jamie Foxx, Diana Ross, Diddy and Prince, revealed to us what he’d put on the most important playlist coming up in the next year: Kim and Kanye’s wedding! “Obviously Kanye’s new album is amazing – can’t go wrong with anything from that,” Zeke declares. “‘Get Down On it’ from Kool & the Gang; ‘Blurred Lines’ by Robin Thicke; ‘Adorn’ by Miguel; ‘Another Part Of Me’ by Michael Jackson; some Stevie Wonder, Lionel Ritchie,” and one that makes us giggle, A$AP Rocky’s, ‘F#$kin’ Problems.’ The best advice Zeke received from his famous father? “He always instilled in me, success is earned, and you have to work for it.” You’re definitely listening, Zeke!
