Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief

The Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for providing administrative and editorial support to the Editor-in-Chief and to the JET editorial staff at large when needed.

Candidates should possess a zeal for detail, the ability to multitask efficiently, superior written and verbal skills, and a demonstrated interest in journalism and pop-culture writing.

The role presents a unique opportunity to work at a fast-paced, multi-platform media company, and to work closely with Editor-in-Chief. The successful candidate may be called on to transcribe a celebrity interview one week, pitch a Snapchat or Facebook Live story idea at a social media meeting the next, and help plan a trip to Fashion Week the following. In between, they will certainly arrange conference calls, book travel, and help get the Editor from point A to point B.

General responsibilities include:

Provide administrative support to the Editor-in-Chief, including:

  • Answering phone calls Calendar management, including coordinating and supporting the Editor-in-Chief’s meeting and event schedule
  • Booking and coordination of all aspects of travel
  • Managing high-volume email communication, tracking and responding to key industry connections
  • Coordinating various staff meetings
  • Attending editorial meetings
  • Managing expenses

Provide editorial support to the Editor-in-Chief, including:

  • Occasional research for pieces, transcription
  • Assisting with interview or presentation preparation
  • Potential to contribute to the magazine, website, video and social media teams when time allows

Requirements:

  • College Degree
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Beauty Writer: Skincare

We’re looking for a sharp beauty writer with an encyclopedic knowledge of beauty and a distinct point of view. This position is perfect for someone with 2-4 years of experience who can generate stories on deadline. Must be a skilled writer, a highly motivated self-starter, and someone with a positive attitude, digital publishing knowledge, and a desire to reach women through beauty. Contacts within the industry are preferred. A passion for beauty and a sense of humor are an absolute must.

Responsibilities:

  • Pitch, write, and produce a minimum of four stories per day, largely pertaining to skin, as well as body, fragrance, and nails, as needed
  • Contribute during award shows and major cultural events, as needed
  • Conduct all photo, video, and/or design research (including occasional photoshoots) and build stories in our custom CMS.
  • Represent JETmag at market events, meetings, sales calls, and in videos, as needed
  • Serve as a team, video, and on-air expert on all things skin-related.

Entertainment Writer : General

Job Description

The Entertainment Writer will cover TV, movies, music, books, and all aspects of pop culture. The primary focus of this job is trending news, traffic-driving stories, and second-day pieces that keep the JETmag voice and brand in mind.

Responsibilities

  • Write five stories per day.
  • Maintain an extensive knowledge of trending entertainment news and upcoming pop culture trends.
  • Pitch creative and original feature stories on a weekly basis.
  • Ability to turn around clean copy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Update evergreen slideshows multiple times per day
  • Strong editorial voice that upholds the JETmag brand and pushes the conversation forward.

Social Media Editor

Responsibilities:

  • Work with JETmag’s editorial team every weekend to triage promotion of content across Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter
  • Package editorial content with optimal social positioning, including image selection, headline testing, and writing and editing compelling callouts and copy
  • Keep traffic up from Saturday morning through Monday morning on Facebook, IG, and Twitter
  • Light community management
  • Elevate issues as needed to management team
  • Provide insight on performance and trending topics to weekend team as well as the rest of the social crew

What you have:

  • 1-2 years experience working as a social media editor, preferably for another media company
  • Extremely proactive and able to work and make decisions independently
  • Quick-thinking with a solid understanding of trending topics and news
  • Proven ability to handle a high-volume workload

  • Flexibility with hours on both Saturday and Sunday

 Freelance Assistant Photo Researcher

JETmag is looking for a curious, ambitious, creative, and dedicated Photo Researcher to join our Photo team!

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with editorial team to illustrate various stories across the site for categories ranging in Entertainment, Beauty, Fashion, Global News
  •  Discerning appropriate imagery for sensitive breaking news stories that involve violence or natural disasters
  • Vast knowledge of photo agencies and pricing structures as well as licensing terms.
  • Coming up with creative solves and dynamic imagery for stories that around the similar topics or celebrities
  • Basic photoshop and retouching techniques such as color correcting, siloing, layer masking, image sizing, and attention to fine details
  • Track daily image purchases and costs in monthly usage document
  • Will be responsible for concept and produce original R29 stock archive photo shoots. Basic production skills a plus but will train candidates.

JETmag is looking for a hard-working, conscientious Email Production Assistant to join our Brand Experiences and Growth teams. This position is perfect for someone who loves to read copy and HTML code, write snappy headlines, and is very organized and meticulous.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Building editorial and sponsored newsletters using HTML-editing software (Dreamweaver) and our custom CMS
  • Coordinating production with our editors, art/photo department, and ad sales team

JETmag is looking for a seller who is responsible for generating advertising revenue by identifying prospects, developing strategic plans, preparing presentations, negotiating rates, and communicating results or problems to management.

Responsibilities

  • Sell creative media and integrated content campaigns to top industry brands
  • Work closely with Media Planner on media plans, client contracts and delivery of campaigns
  • Development of Client Marketing Proposals
  • Development of media plans, client proposals and contracts
  • Manage flow of communication between editorial team and clients to deliver a seamless execution of sold programs
  • Ensure that all digital campaigns go live, including the collection, submission and ultimately live pushing of assets
