I was cleaning out my closet the other day and stumbled upon a case of pink and black sponge rollers that I used to rock in the mid-‘80s. Now don’t get me wrong, I loved everything about the ‘80s, but there was always something more nostalgic and familiar about previous beauty and fashion eras that I was drawn to. Particularly, the ‘70s. Let me clarify: I loved the ‘70s.

From the fashion, television sitcoms, music, beauty products and regimens, I escape to the psychedelic ward as much as I can to revisit some of the most memorable beauty products.

My mom would always insist that I visit a “professional” hairstylist to tame my curly locks, but I went through a phase when I just knew that I could style my own hair. Turns out, I saved my mom a few bucks by asking for beauty supplies and products on special holidays or if I’d gotten good grades in school. I didn’t realize that I’d held on to my at-home hooded dryer and Pink Moisture hair lotion, just in case I’d ever exercise my hair styling abilities again.

Guess what else I found in my closet? Aqua Net Hairspray, Blue Magic pressing grease and peel-off nail polish! Admittedly, I still use a hot comb to smooth my edges, and for my 16th birthday, my sister bought me my very own bottle of White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor. While I’m reminiscing, check out some of my other favorite “throwback” beauty products:

1. Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker – This was my favorite lip moisturizer that I used as primer before lipstick application. There were a variety of different flavors back in the day, but Dr. Pepper was my jam.

2. Care Free Curl – Don’t  laugh, but the Soul Glo-inspired product used to help maintain my natural curl pattern when I wore my hair longer. I still hate the smell and the sticky residue it leaves, but back in the day, you couldn’t tell me a thing about my bouncy curls!

3. Blue Eye Shadow – I still rock it today. If you pair it with pink, taupe or tangerine eye shadow, it can really make your eyes pop and certainly stand out in the crowd.

I know I’m missing much more, so let’s keep this list going. Tell me about some of your all-time favorite throwback beauty products, and let me know if I can still purchase it. Y’all know I love to try new products, but in this case, I’m up for the old, too!
