Welcome to Beauty School!  Every Monday, JET experts will teach you how to preserve your sexy.  This week, make-up and hair expert Dre Brown offers insights on the hottest looks from New York Fashion Week.

Just days ago, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week came to a close in New York City. Even with several snow storms, fashionistas and style seekers still showed up and showed out to see the industry’s top designers present their Fall 2014 collections. I must admit, I was amongst those frozen in awe — not because of the mounds of snow one had to scale en route to the tents at Lincoln Center, but due to  the stunning beauty looks paired with each designer’s apparel.

It’s no secret that hair and makeup serve as the ultimate fashion week runway accessories. Designers spend significant time choosing the looks to ensure they help communicate the collections’ vision and make a lasting impression on onlookers. This season the backstage glam teams, hosted by MAC, Sephora, Stila, and several other iconic beauty brands, did not disappoint. Here are some of my faves that graced the runway:

ANNA SUI: Slick & Sultry

This season Sui’s models brought us into a world of bold color from eyes to lips. Sea shades surrounded the eyes with shimmer giving them a sultry pop, while lips donned a bitten effect with a wine stained red shade that offered a bit of sexy to soften the look. Edgy slicked hair angles on some models turned up the fierceness.

Tip: Try out this runway eye look with Maybelline New York’s Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow “Sapphire Siren” palette. Use the lighter turquoise shade on the lid for a smokey shimmer, then line above and below with the deeper blue and black shades to add intensity.

BETSEY JOHNSON: Glitzy Glamazons

From embellished nails to lots of lashes, Betsey Johnson’s looks were not to be taken lightly. Each buxom model rocked juicy lip shades from magenta to frosted green and topped it off with bold brows and either funky wigs or lushly flowing locks. The beauty styling really gelled with the playful and fun personality of the collection. Not a minimalist approach by far, there was plenty of eye candy to enjoy.

Tip: Take a beat from Betsey’s show and bump up your brow game. Try IMAN’s Perfect Eyebrow Pencil (average $7, various retailers). Create the shape with the defining pencil then use the built in brush to groom and blend the shade into your natural brow. Add a highlighter underneath for extra pop.

HERVE LEGER: Wings and A Powerful Pony

The lines of this show’s hair & makeup were as striking and defined as those of the very garments showcased. A futuristic cut out winged eyeliner directed spectators back to super slick full ponytails with colorful streak accents. The sharp angles in the hair and face complimented similar cut-outs in pieces from the collection, thus bringing the looks full circle.

Tip: Polish off your ultimate ponytail with EDEN BodyWorks Coconut Shea Control Edge Glaze ($8.99, edenbodyworks.com). A little goes a long way and this emollient blend adds shine and doesn’t flake.
