A man claims the star knocked him out following an altercation Sunday...
NFL star Darrelle Revis has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy and terroristic threats after allegedly engaging in a fight with two men on Thursday.
The New York Daily News reports that Revis, who plays for the New York Jets, was spotted by a 22-year-old man in Pittsburgh around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. The man reportedly approached the 31-year-old pro athlete and asked him if he was really Revis. He then started following him while recording a video of the encounter with his cell phone, according to a police statement.
The man said Revis grabbed the phone and tried to delete the video, but when another man tried to intervene, he tossed it in the street. A friend of his then joined the group and stood up for the 2009 AFC Defensive Player of the Year as a heated argument ensued, according to reports.
The man recording the video and his 21-year-old friend were found knocked out cold when police arrived on the scene. Who threw the punches remains unclear, but the pair told police they were struck by Revis.
“Witnesses state the two were unconscious for about 10 minutes,” the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety said.
The men were reportedly taken to a hospital, with one suffering broken bones around his eye, WTAE reported.
Pittsburg police filed the charges against Revis, according to online documents. Blaine Jones, Revis’ attorney, told ESPN that he was trying to reach his client by phone to arrange for him to turn himself in to police. Jones said the four-time All-Pro would do so “rather soon.”
Jones also presented a different account of the incident than what the men allegedly told police.
He said Revis, who was in the area to check on a piece of property he’s considering developing, was assaulted by five men. According to his lawyer, he was treated at a local hospital following the encounter.
“Mr. Revis feared for his safety and retreated from the aggressors,” the lawyer said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the New York Jets said the team heard from Revis and is aware of the situation.
“We’ve spoken to Darrelle. We’re aware of the incident,” he said. “We’ll have no further comment.”
